Place Names

Pádraig Ó'Fionnusa published "Tuath chois móire cois bríde" in 1980 (No ISBN). Pádraig was born in Sliabh gCua or Mountain of the Hounds (Hunting with Hounds), midway beween Dungarvan and Clonmel and lived most of his life in Cappoquin. A dedicated Gaelgeoiri passionate about the language and history of his beloved Port Láirge (Waterford - Vasser Fjord). In quoting from his book and his interpretation of various place names, it is wise to consider other equally valid interpretations, Pádraig would be the first to encourage an open mind approach to the topic of Ancient Irish placenames.  Picking names at random to give a flavour of the original placenames that are descriptive, to the point and relevant. They were names given to landmarks well known to local people. The "Black Tree" could be enough information.
